A Court will Decide whether Missouri’s New Congressional Map applies to the 2026 Elections, after Opponents Submitted more than 300,000 Petition Signatures seeking a Statewide Referendum that they say should have Suspended the Law.
The ACLU, representing Two Kansas City-area Voters, Argues the Map should have been Automatically Suspended when the Petitions were Filed.
The Suit says, “This is a transparent ploy to force the use of HB1’s new congressional map by delaying certification of the referendum’s signatures … until it is too late to change the congressional map for the 2026 midterms.”
Attorney General Catherine Hanaway (R) says a Suspension takes Effect Only after Secretary of State Denny Hoskins (R) Vverifies the Signatures, so the Map remains in Force for now.
The Map, supported by Trump (R), is meant to Help Republicans Win a Democratic-held Kansas City Seat.
A Major Trial is Scheduled for Mid-January 2026 to Determine if the Map must be Frozen.
Similar Mid-Decade Redistricting Efforts in other States, could Change the Balance of a few U.S. House Seats, but are drawing Legal Challenges.
