The Trump (R) Administration has Secured Naval Station Great Lakes in Lake County, for use by ICE as the Feds say they are Ramping-Up Immigration Enforcement in the Chicago area this week. Staff were informed at Naval Station Great Lakes that the Base would be providing Support to Federal Agents in the form of Office Space, Parking, and portable Laundry units.
The Naval Base will be providing Building 617, the Great Lakes Library, as a Command Center for the Immigration Operations. Last week, Naval Station Great Lakes Commanding Officer Captain Stephen M. Yargosz said in an Internal email that Agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), would be Stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes from September 2nd-30th.
A Spokesperson for the Base Confirmed DHS asked the Naval Station Great Lakes for “Limited Support” in regard to Immigration Operations. That Support was in the form of “facilities, infrastructure, and other logistical needs to support DHS operations.” Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem (R) said on Sunday that while ICE already had Operations ongoing in Chicago and throughout Illinois, there will be Additional Resources added to the Operations.
“I won’t disclose the details because they are law enforcement and investigative folks that are on the ground there, and I want to make sure we keep their security our number one priority, but we will continue to go after the worst of the worst across the country, like President Trump has told us to do,” Noem said. “Focusing on those that are perpetuating murder and rape and trafficking of drugs and humans across our country, knowing that every single citizen deserves to be safe,” She said.
“Operations are ramping up across the country. You’re going to see a ramp up of operations in Chicago, absolutely,” Trump Border Czar Tom Homan (R) said last week. “All of these sanctuary cities that refuse to work with ICE, where we know public safety threats are being released every day into this country, especially those cities, we’re going to address that,” Homan said.
Homan did Not Disclose how many Additional ICE Agents would be sent to Chicago, but that it would be a “large contingent.” Homan Declined to say whether or not the National Guard would be sent to Chicago. “The National Guard will be in cities that have crime problems,” He said.
Illinois Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton (D), Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart (D), Illinois State Representative Rita Mayfield )D), U.S. Representative Brad Schneider (D), North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham, Jr. (D) and others gathered at Veterans Memorial Park in North Chicago on Friday, to Oppose the Trump Administration’s Planned Operation.
Stratton called the Immigration Blitz being staged at Great Lakes an “engineered crisis” not for Safety but for “Spectacle." Trump does Not want Law and Order. He wants Unchecked Power and Unrelenting Intimidation,” Stratton said.
U.S. Representative Brad Schneider (D-IL, 19th District) said last week, that Trump's Threat to send National Guard Troops to Chicago and “parade masked ICE agents” through Naval Station Great Lakes is an “unnecessary, unacceptable, and dangerous action.”
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) acknowledged: "There is not much the State can do to stop Trump and other Federal Agencies from coming to the area for Immigration Raids and that Public opinion is likely the only way to stop the deployments."
