Lease Plan for Area in Gulf of Maine for Offshore Wind Energy


The Department of the Interior is moving forward with Plans to Lease Land in the Gulf of Maine for Offshore Wind Energy.

The Plan is to Sell Eight Acres next month.

According to the Department, the entire area, if fully Developed, has the potential Capacity of roughly 13 gigawatts, or enough to Power 4.5 million Homes.

Last month, it was announced 15 square miles of Ocean, located 30 miles off the Coast of Portland, would soon be Home to the Nation's First Offshore Wind Energy Research Farm.

The University of Maine was Awarded more than $12 million to Design the Turbines.

The Biden Administration says this is part of a Bigger Goal to get 30 gigawatts of Ooffshore Energy deployed by 2030.

The Sale of the First Eight Acres is set for October 29th.
