Maine now has the go-ahead to Set-Up Offshore Wind Turbines in the Gulf of Maine.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Approved Maine’s Request to Lease Federal Waters Southeast of Portland.
The 15.2 square mile Section would include 12 Turbines on Floating Concrete Platforms designed by the University of Maine.
The Site will be for Research to get Hard Data on the Effects of Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Maine.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management says issuing the Lease would have No Significant Impact on the Environment.
Maine Leaders have 30 days to Accept, Reject, or Modify the Lease Offer.
