Ex-Trump aide, Peter Navarro, loses bid to Delay Jan. 6 Contempt Trial for Book Tour.
A Federal Judge, Rejected a bid by former White House Aide, Peter Navarro, to Delay his Jan. 6 Contempt of Congress Trial, till next year to accommodate his planned MAGA book tour.
U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta, set a November Trial date, for the Economic Adviser to Trump, agreeing with Prosecutors that the Public interest would be served by a speedy resolution. The Judge rejected Navarro’s Request to put off the Trial till 2023, so he could mount a tour promoting his latest book, Taking Back Trump’s America.
Navarro, 72, who defied a Subpoena from the Congressional Committee investigating the Attack on the Capitol, pleaded Not Guilty in Federal Court in Washington after being Arraigned on the Two-Count Indictment.
He was Charged with One Contempt count for Failing to appear for a Deposition before the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Attack, and a Second Charge for Failing to produce Documents the Committee requested. Navarro earlier tried to represent himself, but has now agreed to hire Two Attorneys, who appeared with him.
Navarro, a Top Economic adviser to Trump, has argued that the Select Committee investigating the Attack is illegal and therefore a Subpoena it issued to him in February, is Not Enforceable. He joins Steve Bannon, in facing Prosecution for Snubbing the Subpoena. Two other Trump aides, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and Social Media Director Dan Scavino, were let off the hook, when the Department of Justice (DOJ) Declined to prosecute them despite a Referral from the Panel.
Next week’s Sessions are expected to focus on Trump’s effort to get State Officials to flip States that Voted for Biden to his Column, and his Plot to get the DOJ to join his Big Lie that the Election was Stolen.
