Lobbyists Killed Bill To Protect NY Elections

New York’s Elections could soon be at Risk of getting Hacked. The Machines, called Hybrid or All-in-One Voting Machines, would Replace the current Paper Ballot and Scanners.

The reason I don't like it, the Voter views the Ballot with their Votes, but the system creates a Bar Code, that is Scanned by the Vote Tally macines Count the Ballot, so the Voter has No way to verify the Ballot was correctly Counted. But in Georgia, they say the Vote Count by the computer matched the Ballot image.

The State Board of Elections, is deciding should they approve certain Voting Machines, that Experts say are particularly Vulnerable to Cyberattacks.

A Bill that would have Banned these Machines, passed the State Senate last month, but it died in the State Assembly, after the Elections Committee Chair refused to let it come to a Vote.

The Bill, sponsored by State Senator Zellnor Myrie (D-20th District, Brooklyn) and Assemblymember Amy Paulin (D-88th District, Westchester), seemed like a solid bet for passage in the Assembly, since it was sponsored by nearly half of the Assembly’s Democrats, as well as several Republicans.

It was Blocked by a team of Opponents including:

- Assemblymember Latrice Walker (D-55th District, Brooklyn), who Chairs the Chamber’s Election Law Committee.

- Lobbyists for the Voting machine company, Election Systems & Software (ES&S), whose Voting machines are currently used in: Albany County, Erie County, Nassau County, New York City, Rockland County, and Schenectady County.

ES&S hired the Lobbying firm, Davidoff, Hutcher & Citron, to promote the Technology, with the firm circulating a Memo among Lawmakers in Opposition to the Bill that would Ban the machines.

And, perhaps unexpectedly, the New York State Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which used language taken directly from a Lobbyist’s Memo, to successfully pressure key Lawmakers to kill it.

And once Election Officials Approve New Election Technology, it becomes much Harder to Remove it from the State.
