Trump Greenlights Drilling and Mining in Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante

The Trump Administration has just Officially Approved Drilling and Mining in Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante.

This move threatens some of America's most Majestic Landscapes and Sacred Cultural Sites. The Damage will be Irreversible for Tribal Communities, Local Communities, and Businesses that Depend on these Lands for their way of Life and Livelihoods.

Congress is mounting a Response but to have a Shot at Stopping Trump, we need to Raise Hell and do it quickly. That means getting Organizers on the Ground and Flooding House and Senate Offices with Calls and Letters. We have to make sure America's Public Lands remain Open and Accessible to the People, not the Oil and Gas and Mining Industries.

In 2017, when the Trump Administration First moved to Decimate Protections for 85% of Bears Ears, it sparked Enormous Public Outrage.

Now they've revealed Devastating Management Plans that would Gut the Remaining 15% of the Monument, more than 80,000 Acres filled with Historic and Cultural Sites. They are Ignoring the Will of Tribal Communities in the Region and Handing over Huge Tracts of Land to Big Polluters to Mine and Drill.

Last August, Rep. Gallego (D-AZ, 7th District) Introduced the Bears Ears Expansion and Respect for Sovereignty (BEARS) Act (H.R.871) in the House, which would Protect the Original Bears Ears Monument designated by President Obama and Expand the Monument to be the Full 1.9 Million Acres that Tribal Communities have Worked to Protect.

If it passes, Trump would be Barred from Selling Off the Land, it would Stop this Deal in its Tracks.

But Fights like these are Huge. The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is Fighting the Trump Administration on a Host of Issues, including his:

- Massive Rollback to the National Environmental Review Policy Act (NEPA), which Curtails Public Input into Projects with Major possible Environmental Impacts.

- Gutting of Regulations to Redefine and Restrict which Waterways are Protected by the Federal Clean Water Act.

- Efforts to Fast-Track Mining on the Edge of Minnesota's Boundary Waters, America's Most-Visited Wilderness area.
