NYC Made Climate History Again

Yesterday, New York City made Climate History again. At his Annual State of the City Address, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a Citywide Ban on New Fossil Fuel Projects, making NYC the Largest Municipality in the World to Ban Fossil Fuels.

NYC is a Policy Trendsetter, Two years ago, Mayor de Blasio and Comptroller Stringer Committed the City's Pension Funds to Divest from Fossil Fuels.

In a matter of Months, Cities across the Country and the World followed suit. We can expect a similar Ripple effect from the Ban on Fossil Fuel Projects.

We should Celebrate this Historic Victory, but we also have to be Aware of what this means for the Gas Pipelines Planned for the City.

National Grid is still Fighting hard to get the Williams Pipeline built, and also now Proposing a New Gas Pipeline in North Brooklyn.

Even though these Pipelines will Pass through NYC, they won't be Stopped by de Blasio's Ban because State Level Agencies are responsible for Approving Construction.

The only way to Stop the Williams and North Brooklyn Gas Pipelines is to get Governor Cuomo to take Action.

This Groundbreaking Ban is Proof of the Movement's Effectiveness.

With People Power, Climate is a Top Priority for NYC Elected Officials and Eroded the Power of the Fossil Fuel Industry.

Even the State Comptroller, Tom DiNapoli, announced he would begin the Process of Divesting from some Coal Companies last month.

These are All signs that the tide is Turning, and that we can achieve the Impossible if we keep Pushing.

De Blasio's Ban on New Fossil Fuel Projects gives us an Opportunity to Ramp Up the Pressure on Cuomo. With enough of us Speaking Out at once, we can push Cuomo to stop Williams Once and For All and bring us all One Step closer to a Statewide Ban on New Fossil Fuel Projects.
