
On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Ralph Nader's book "Unsafe at Any Speed", The Center for Study of Responsive Law invites you to attend an civic mobilization. Numerous advocacy organizations will be looking ahead to the next fifty years of progress.
To celebrate this milestone, and to reflect and renew civic spirit and resolve, Nader is convening an unprecedented gathering of public interest organizers, advocates, experts, and concerned citizens for four days at historic Constitution Hall in Washington DC.
Breaking Through Power will take place from May 23-26, 2016, from 8:30am to 6:00pm each day, at Constitution Hall, Washington D.C.
Monday, May 23 - Breaking Through Power: How It Is Done
Leaders of influential civic groups in a variety of fields will explain how with modest budgets, and determined, focused purpose, they successfully changed our country for the better. This unprecedented gathering will showcase the strategic insights these leaders gained over the years and will offer perspectives on new innovations and strategies for future efforts.
Tuesday May 24 - Breaking Through the Media
Leading authors, documentary filmmakers, journalists, cartoonists, new media content producers and other creative advocates will gather to discuss tactics to reform our communications landscape, and open the airwaves and internet up to serious and compelling content. Together we will launch a new organization – “Voices” – a full-spectrum advocacy group to champion an open, democratic communication commons.
Wednesday May 25 - Breaking Through War
Former military and national security experts, diplomats, veterans, and leaders of organizations dedicated to waging peace will discuss strategies to resist the pressure for perpetual war, and to proactively promote peaceful alternatives. We will also launch a new civic “Secretariat” to bring together experts and citizen leaders with the stature, credibility, experience and wisdom to counter and respond rapidly to the drumbeat for future unlawful or unnecessary military adventures.
Thursday My 26 - Breaking Through Congress
A new civic platform will be presented by our nation’s leading advocates. This platform will be advanced by presenting a “Great Citizen Summons of Members of Congress” that will form the basis of a sustained nationwide organizing effort.
