NY Voter Registration for Presidential Primary

With the new voter registration numbers from the New York Board of Elections, I reviewed the 2012 and the 2016 Democratic and Republican stats, as New York is a Closed Primary state.

In 2012, the active registration numbers:

Democrats

Upstate & Long Island = 2,526,019
New York City = 2,877,217
Total = 5,403,236

Republican

Upstate & Long Island = 2,221,824
New York City = 460,129
Total = 2,681,954

In the Presidential Republican Primary, only 190,515 voted for a 7.1% of registered voters.

In 2016, the active registration numbers:

Democrat

Upstate & Long Island = 2,510,740
New York City = 2,757,691
Total = 5,268,431

Republican

Upstate & Long Island = 2,140,518
New York City = 414,478
Total = 2,554,996

The following numbers comes from Richard Winger's Ballot Access News.

The percentage of voters in each Qualified Party increased between November 2015 and April 2016, except that the Republican and Conservative shares declined. The number of independent voters also increased.

Qualified Party

Democrat: from 49.19% to 49.40%

Republican: from 23.67% to 23.29%

Independence Party: from 4.02% to 4.06%

Conservative: 1.38% to 1.36%

Working Families: .405% to .412%

Green: .220% to .224%

Women’s Equality: only one-hundredth of 1% in both tallies, but raw numbers went from 602 to 1,283

Reform: raw numbers went from 78 to 377

independents: 21.06% to 21.19%

Not Ballot-Qualified

Libertarians had 5,856 registrants in early February and now have 6,017 registrants.
