The organizers of March for Term Limits, are passionate about ensuring that America’s legislators focus on the interests of the American people, instead of foreign interests, corporate interests, and their own statuses and job security. They are committed to restoring integrity to Congress and returning to a government "of the people, by the people, for the people."
They are a PAC, political action committee, with a goal to amend the constitution of the United States and implement congressional term limits.
One of the most effective ways to achieve their goals is through term limits, which will end the reign of career politicians who are beholden to special interests that shape the majority of government policy. Their mission is to spread the word and empower the will of the people.
They have developed a unique set of powerful online social media tools that make it easy to show your support and help create grassroots movements to push their mission forward.
Term Limits Congressional Reform Act of 2016
1. Term Limits. No congressional representatives may serve in office for more than eight (8) years.
2. No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in session only and receives no Federal pension when they're out of office.
3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately and participates with the American people. (Congress can purchase their own retirement plan (IRA or Sep/IRA) just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will start at $100,000 per year and rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates under the affordable healthcare act or purchases their own medical savings plan.
6. All congressional representatives will be ineligible for any type of lobbying job or position for a period of five years after leaving office.
7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
The Founding Fathers originally pushed hard for congressional term limits when they drafted the country's first constitution, known as the Articles of Confederation. Unfortunately, these laws were not adopted into the current U.S. Constitution, which was officially ratified in 1789.
In 1995, 23 states passed laws limiting their representatives' terms of service in the U.S. Congress; however, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned these measures, calling them unconstitutional.
Sadly, this decision allows American politicians to remain entrenched in their high-paid government positions, thanks to gerrymandering and large campaign funds owed to corporate backing.
To bypass the U.S. Supreme Court's fateful decision and implement mandatory term limits, we need a 28th Amendment to the Constitution.
