Congress Did Not Approve White House Ballroom Project

The White House Ballroom Project has Not been Approved by Congress. In fact, a Federal Appeals Court recently Ruled that the Administration must Stop Construction, unless Congress Grants Approval, citing the Constitution’s Property Clause and the White House’s Status as a National Landmark.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued a 2–1 Decision on 8/7/2026, Holding that Trump (R) does Not have Unilateral Authority to Build the 90,000‑square‑foot Ballroom, where the East Wing was Demolished. The Court Emphasized that Congress Exercises Plenary Control over the White House, and its Surrounding Land Mediaite. The Ruling Delayed the Decision for 14 days, to allow for Appeal to the Supreme Court Mediaite.

While Attorney General Todd Blanche (R) has Argued that the Administration believes Congress has already Granted the Authority to Proceed under Existing Presidential Powers This Position is Directly Contradicted by the Appeals Court’s Finding that Ccongressional Approval is Required. The Administration has Appealed the Ruling to the Supreme Court, but as of now, the Project remains Blocked Pending that Review.

In Summary, Congress has Not Formally Approved the White House Ballroom Project, and Legal Challenges continue to Halt Construction until a Higher Court Resolves the Dispute.
