Trump (R) on 7/30/2026, rolled out a New Initiative dubbed “Freedom Haulers”, aimed at Employing U.S. Military Veterans as Truck Drivers, replacing the tens of thousands of Immigrant Drivers who Lost their Licenses during the Administration’s Immigration Crackdown.
Trump made the Announcement alongside Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy (R) and Acting Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling (R).
As a part of the initiative, the Department of Transpertation (DOT) will give Eligible Veterans Expedited Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs).
Veterans that do Not have Experience Truck Driving will be able to Receive CDL Training.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the GI Bill will Cover as much as 100% of CDL Tuition at Programs Approved by a State Approving Agency.
Werner Enterprises, a Transportation Company, announced that as a Part of the Program, the Company will Hire 1,400 Veterans and Veteran Spouses.
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland and Wyoming, are also slated to Join the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Exchange Program, which would Help Military Truck Drivers to Transfer their Experience to Civilian Truck Driving.
