A U.S. District Court Blocked Alabama’s Latest Gerrymander, which Lawmakers Passed, after the Supreme Court Gut the Voting Rights Act (VRA), and which was Designed to Help Republicans Win more Seats in Congress, at the Expense of Black Voters. But this isn’t Over, the Sstate is Appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court, in the Hopes they Allow this Racial Gerrymander to be Used.
The South Carolina Senate Rejected a Last-Ditch Attempt to Redraw its Map for the Midterms, with a Dozen Republican Lawmakers Crossing the Aisle to Vote Down the Gerrymander that Aimed to Eliminate the Seat of Rep. Jim Clyburn (D), the Only Democrat in the Delegation.
Louisiana Passed a New Map that would Cut in Half its Black Representation in Congress, in a State that has Only had Four Black Representatives since Reconstruction.
A.G. Holder (82nd U.S, Attorney General from 2009 to 2015. A Member of the Democratic Party, Holder was the First African American to Hold the Position, called this Action Reprehensible, saying, “This map is an affront to all those Louisianans — Black and white — who marched in the streets to ensure that all residents had a say at the ballot box.”
The Good News is that the Fair Maps Movement is Fighting Back Everywhere, We can and with every Tool at our Disposal. We won’t Prevail every Time, but when We do, Democracy will be Stronger for it.
