Ukraine New Weapons Against Russia

Ukraine has a New Plan to Help Fill its Ranks on the Frontline. Kyiv will use Ground Robotic Systems to Bolster its Military in the First Half of 2026. The Scheme could Mark another Key Revolution in Modern Warfare Driven by Drone Technology.

Innovations in Ground Robots have Not Advanced as Quickly as other forms of Drone Development. However, after more than Four years of War, Ground Robots are Starting to make a Serious Impact on the Battlefield, especially after a recent First-of-its-Kind Victory over Russian Forces on the Frontlines.

In Early April, Reports began suggesting that Ukraine used Ground Robots to Capture a Russian Position without the Support of Infantry Troops. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later Confirmed the Reports on 4/13/2026 in a Statement. “For the first time in the history of this war, an enemy position was taken exclusively by unmanned platforms, ground systems and drones.” Zelensky Explained in a Post on X, that Highlighted the many Ground Robotic Systems Ukraine has Developed.

Zelensky went on to Note that the Russian Soldiers Manning the Taken Position Surrendered, and that the Operation was Carried Out without any Support from Infantry, Resulting in No Casualties for the Ukrainian side. “Ratel, TerMIT, Ardal, Rys, Zmiy, Protector, Volia, and Our other Ground Robotic Systems have already Carried-Out more than 22,000 Missions on the Front in just three months,” the Ukrainian President Explained.

“In other words, lives were saved more than 22,000 times when a robot went into the most dangerous areas instead of a warrior. This is about high technology protecting the highest value – human life,” Zelensky continued. In the Wake of the Successful Operation, the Ukrainian Minister-of-Defense later Revealed that Kyiv was Planning to Contract 25,000 Ground Drones in the First Half of 2026, to Help Scale the Size of the Country’s Growing Ground Robotic Forces.

“Our goal, 100% of frontline logistics should be performed by robotic systems,” the Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov said on April 18th, According to United24. This Revealed the Current Strategy of Ukrainian War Planners. The Goal of Growing Ukraine’s Ground Robotic Forces will likely begin with using the New Systems for Logistics Operations, something Ukrainian Defense Forces are already doing on a Large Scale, based on the currently Available Information.

Ukrainian Forces carried out 9,000 Logistics and Evacuation Missions using Ground Robots in 3/2026 alone. Fedorov Explained that the Country’s Ground Robotic Forces were One of the Fastest Growing Defense Sectors in Ukraine. As of Late 4/2026, 280 Different Companies were Working on Ground Robots, with over 550 Active Solutions. A Recent Report from the Kyiv School of Economics Institute Noted that Production of Ground Robotic Ssystems Increased by 488% in One year.

However, while Ukraine may be trying to Grow its Ground Robotics Inventory, the Systems likely aren’t ready to take on Full Combat Roles just yet. Land Warfare Expert Robert Tollast of the Royal United Services Institute recently told CNN that Advances in Ukraine will “fuel a furious debate about whether these robots are the future of warfare or not.”

Tollast does Not believe that Ground Robots can actually hold Territory without the Support of Infantry, but Hhe did Note that the Systems were being used Regularly to Save the Lives of Soldiers by Replacing Infantry in Dangerous Evacuation, Resupply, and Mine Clearance Operations. He also Noted they were being Increasingly used to Fight Russian Forces.

“This is critical in a war where aerial drone observation has made movement near the front line almost deadly… even imagining a future where NATO doesn’t fight quite like Ukraine, it’s almost certain these systems will find many uses in other forces,” Tollast explained.

How Ground-Based Drone Warfare will Evolve in Ukraine, and the Broader Shifting Nature of Modern Warfare is still Uunclear, but what is Clear is that Kyiv is Betting Big on the New Systems, and it could Prove to Pay-Off in the Near Future.
