Trump Changes Nomination for Surgeon General

Trump (R) on 4/30/2026 Pulled the Controversial Nomination of Casey Means for Surgeon General, Announcing on Truth Social that Her Replacement would be Fox News Contributor and Radiologist Dr. Nicole Saphier, marking His Third Nominee for the Post.

“Nicole is a STAR physician who has spent her career guiding women facing breast cancer through their diagnosis and treatment while tirelessly advocating to increase early cancer detection and prevention, while at the same time working with men and women on all other forms of cancer diagnoses and treatments,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social Post, calling Saphier an “incredible communicator.”

The Development comes after Trump suggested in a separate Truth Social Post that He was Pulling the Nomination of Means for the Post after She Faced Opposition from Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA).

“Nevertheless, despite Senator Cassidy’s intransigence and political games, Casey will continue to fight for MAHA on the many important Health issues facing our Country, such as the rising childhood disease epidemic, increased autism rates, poor nutrition, over-medicalization, and researching the root causes of infertility, and many other difficult medical problems. Casey, thank you for your service to our Nation!” Trump wrote.

Saphier, who will No Longer be a Fox Contributor, is Trump’s Third Nominee to be Surgeon General, with Two Picks who have now Failed to Win Republican Support in the Senate. His First Pick was Fox News Contributor Janette Nesheiwat.

Casey Means, being the Sister of Calley Means, a Senior White House Adviser and Close Ally to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (I), seemed like a Shoo-in for the Position.

But Republican Senators on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee had Numerous Rreservations following Her Sole Confirmation Hearing. With No Democrats inclined to Support Her, Losing just a few Republican Votes Effectively Ended Her Chances of being Confirmed.

Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) expressed Concerns about Her Views on Vaccinations for Measles and Hepatitis B. Despite saying She believed the Shots to be Safe and Effective, Means held back on Giving the Immunizations a Ringing Endorsement that the Senators seemed to have been Wanting. Calley Means laid Blame on Cassidy for His Sister’s Failed Confirmation.

“I am so proud of Casey, and the way She Conducted Herself during this Process. I am also Proud to Work for the Trump Admin, who has marshaled the Disruptive MAHA Message and Driven Victories against Dark Forces Personified by Bill Cassidy. At every Step, Casey’s Message of Hope and Empowerment was Thwarted by Bill Cassidy”, Calley Means Wrote on social media.

“Bill Cassidy is a mindless avatar for his donors and a blind defender of the status quo system that is profiting from American sickness,” He added. “At every turn during Casey’s confirmation, Bill Cassidy worked to delay her and smear her.”

Calley Means Claimed that Cassidy Knowingly Scheduled the Initial Confirmation Hearing Date around His Sister’s Due Date and Accused Him of Enacting “constant delay tactics” that Ultimately Ended Her Nomination.
