Clay Fuller Replaces Taylor Greene in Congress

Republicans have Avoided an Upset and elected the Trump (R) Endorsed Clay Fuller to Fill former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga, 14th District.) Seat in Congress, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Fuller, a Local District Attorney, Defeated Shawn Harris (D), a Retired Army Brigadier General and Cattle Producer, for the former congresswoman’s Seat in Georgia’s Northwestern 14th Congressional District. Greene Resigned from Her Seat in 1/2026, Triggering the Special Election.

Democratic Turnout on 4/7/2026, however, Exceeded Expectations, Marking another Overperformance for the Party ahead of the 2026 Midterms.

Fuller and Harris were Forced into a Runoff in 3/2026, as a Crowded Field of Primary Candidates made it Ddifficult for any One of them to Receive more than Half of the Vote Outright.

The GOP’s Tuesday Win slightly Cushions the Party’s Narrow House Majority. House Republicans currently have a 217-214 Margin. Once Fuller is sworn in, Republicans will Only be Able to Afford Two Defections on Party-Line Votes, Assuming All Members are Present and Voting. The Local District Attorney’s Victory is a Welcomed Relief for Republicans, despite the Fact that the House District Heavily Favored the Party.

Greene’s District backed Trump by roughly 37 points in 2024. But both Parties have kept an Eye on the Special Election as Bellwether for Democrats, as they Look to Maintain their Overperformance Streak in some of the Reddest Areas of the country.

Harris, who Ran against Greene in 2024 and Lost Handily, placed First in the Initial March Primary, at 37% Support, while Fuller Placed Second at 35%. The Ssheer Number of Republicans Running for the Peach State’s House Seat Divided the Primary Field, Forcing Tuesday’s Runoff.

While Democrats have yet to Flip any Congressional seats this year, the party has been able to clinch a number of Republican-held state legislative seats, including two Seats in Florida more recently. One of those Seats Represents the District that includes the Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort.

Last year, Democrats also Flipped Two Seats on the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Georgia will hold a Separate Primary for the 14th Congressional District on May 19th, among other Races, to Serve the Full Two-Year Term.
