The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just Proposed Weakening Limits on Emissions of a Gas called Ethylene Oxide from Manufacturing Facilities across the Country.
Ethylene Oxide is used to Sterilize Medical Equipment, but Long-Term Exposure is Linked to Leukemia, Breast Cancer, Lymphoma, and other Cancers. The EPA itself Classified it as a Human Carcinogen in 2016, Finding it was 60 times more Toxic to Children than Previously thought.
Now, roughly 2.3 million People Living near these Facilities are Put at Even Greater Risk, because of this Inhumane Rollback.
These Neighborhoods are Disproportionately Low-Income Communities and Communities of Color that have Long Shouldered the Heaviest Burden of Industrial Pollution in this Country.
This is part of a Devastating and Deliberate Pattern. In recent months alone, Trump's EPA has Weakened Restrictions on Mercury from Coal-Burning Power Plants and Repealed the Scientific Finding that gave the Government the Legal Authority to Regulate Climate Pollution.
So we must ask Ourselves who Benefits from these Rollbacks, certainly Not Everyday People. These Attacks are Designed to Serve Big Industry and Big Oil, the same Polluters that have spent Decades Profiting while Communities Pay the Price.
