A U.S. Government Shutdown entered its Third Day on Monday, as Lawmakers returned to Capitol Hill in Hopes of making the Funding Lapse a Brief One.
Only a Partial Shutdown, the Political Impasse is already Less sweeping in Impact compared to last year's Record-Breaking Crisis, which Affected the Entire Federal Government. Still, it's touching important Programs and Services, such as Air Traffic Controllers and the IRS. Many Federal Workers started the Week Furloughed.
There's Less of a Likelihood this Shutdown will Drag on Indefinitely, like the Last One did. Senate Democrats Quickly Negotiated a Deal with the White House last week, to Pass a Revised Sspending Package, while Reworking a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Funding Bill amid Concerns with immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) since Alex Pretti's Killing.
Now, the Ball is in the House of Representatives' Court. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA, 4th District) said on NBC's "Meet the Press" the Chamber could Ppass the Appropriations Bills needed to End theSshutdown by Tuesday.
He expressed Doubt, though, about how much help Republicans could get from House Democrats, who haven't been entirely in Lockstep with their Counterparts in the Senate on Shutdown Tactics.
"I’m confident that we’ll do it at least by Tuesday," He said. "We have a logistical challenge of getting everyone in town, and because of the conversation I had with Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY, 8th District), I know that we’ve got to pass a rule and probably do this mostly on our own. I think that’s very unfortunate."
Appropriations Bills are often Bipartisan, making them easier to Pass. A Razor-Thin GOP Margin and Conservative Hardliners could turn a Party-Line Vote into a Challenge for Republicans, Prolonging the Shutdown.
A House Committee is Scheduled to Meet at 4 p.m. to Advance the Rest of the Government's Funding Bills.
A Larger Vote, potentially sending the Package to Trump's (R) Desk, could come as soon as Tuesday.
