FL Voters Sue Over Redistricting Push

Florida Voters have Filed a Petition Challenging Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) Push for Mid-Decade Redistricting in the Sunshine State.

A Filing before the Florida Supreme Court, Argues that DeSantis does Not have the Authority to Order the State Legislature to Draw New Maps.

DeSantis last month, Issued a Proclamation calling a Spring Special Legislative Session Focused on Congressional Redistricting, pushing Florida further into the Nationwide Battle over District Lines Ahead of November’s High-Stakes Midterms.

The Florida Voters, Elizabeth Pines and Eugene Pettis, Contend that DeSantis and Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd (R), who Issued a Related Directive, Unconstitutionally attempted to use “unilateral authority to bind the Legislature into passing legislation.”

They’re asking the Court to Clarify that the Proclamations and Directives issued by the Governor and Secretary-of-State are “not binding and unenforceable.”

Republicans want to Redraw Florida’s Congressional Map to Net Several more House Seats, as the Party Fights to Hold on to its Control of Congress this Fall.

Backed by Trump (R), Texas Redistricted in 2025. to Net Five Red Pickup Opportunities, prompting California to Respond with a Democrat-Friendly Plan to Cancel-Out those would-be Gains.

North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, and Utah, have All Passed New Maps outside of the typical Decennial Schedule Tied to the U.S. Census.

DeSantis has set the Special Election for 4/2026, as Observers wait for a Highly Anticipated Supreme Court Ruling over Louisiana’s Congressional Map, and the Fate of the Voting Rights Act, which the Governor said last month, could Impact Districts in Florida.

Pines and Pettis are Represented by Democratic Law Firm Elias Law Group, Led by Prominent Election Attorney Marc Elias, and are Supported by the National Redistricting Foundation, which is Directing Litigation.
