Ukraine will soon Receive a Major Boost in Military Support. Canada is Sending Powerful American-made Missiles to its Embattled Eastern European Ally, in an Effort to Strengthen Ukraine’s Air Defense Capabilities.
However, despite the Constant Barrage of Daily Russian Drone and Missile Assaults, Ukrainians are carrying on with Help from their Allies. Canada is One of Kyiv’s Main Allies, and it was recently Announced that Ottawa Plans to give more Help.
On February 6th, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that Canada is going to send AIM missiles to Ukraine to aid the country’s air defense after a meeting with his Canadian counterpart, Defense Minister David McGuinty. The AIM missiles being sent to Ukraine will help replenish the country’s stockpiles. The Ukrainian military news website Militarnyi reported that the transfer of the missiles was already underway. However, when they will be delivered is unknown.
According to a Report from Ukrainska Pravda, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry noted in a Statement: “The Ukrainian side has expressed its gratitude to Canada for its consistent and effective assistance to Ukraine's defence forces.” The New Missile Support was Provided under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) Initiative, which is an Initiative set up by the Trump (R) Administration to Allow other Countries to Purchase American Weapons for Ukraine.
While the U.S. under Trump has taken a Big Step back from providing Ukraine with Military Aid. Trump has still Allowed American-made Weapons to Flow to Ukraine through the PURL Initiative. "Recent contributions under the programme have been decisive in repelling large-scale enemy aerial attacks. Ukraine counts on the continuation of PURL support throughout this year as well," the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence explained.
It is Unclear which AIM Missiles Canada is providing to Kyiv, or in what Quantities, but the various AIM Models of Missiles are Powerful Weapon Systems and could prove to be a Major Help over the next few Months as Ukraine works to Halt Russian Aerial Attacks.
MiltiarnyiRreported that Ukraine currently already uses Three Types of AIM Missiles in its Armed Forces. The Aim-7, Aim-9, and AIM-120, are All used to Intercept Russian Drones and Missiles. Each System is Integrated into the Ukrainian Military in different ways.
The Aim-7 Sparrow is a Medium-Range Air-to-Air Guided Missile. Militarnyi Reported that these Older Missiles have been Integrated into Buk Air Defense Systems as part of a U.S. and Ukrainian effort to Repurpose the Air Defense Systems, which are commonly referred to as FrankenSAMs.
Aim-7 Missiles can Engage Targets Upward of 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) and at Altitudes up to 15 kilometers (9.3 miles). The U.S. Air Force noted that these Radar-Guided Missiles are Versatile in All-Weather Conditions and Deployed across many NATO Countries.
The AIM-9 Sidewinder is a famous Air-to-Air Missile equipped with an Infrared Homing Head. Militarnyi Reported that the Missiles are used by Ukrainians, in their NASAMS Air Defense Systems. According to the U.S. Air Force, the AIM-9 is a Supersonic Heat-Seeking Missile, normally carried by Fighter Jets. However, the Missile has been Adapted and Re-Wngineered several times over its History to be used in Different Capacities.
“In Ukrainian service, it can be used within numerous air-defense systems, providing close-range interception capability against aerial threats,” United24 noted about how Ukraine uses the AIM-9. Ukraine has also fitted the Missiles to its MAGURA Maritime Drones. The AIM-120 AMRAAM is also a Medium-Range Missile. It is Actively Guided by Radar and forms the Ccore of Ukraine's NASAMS Interceptor Arsenal.
The Anti-Aircraft Version of the Missiles is Fired from Containers situated on a Platform, and they have a Range Uward of 25-30 kilometers (15.5-18.6 miles) Depending on the Modification being Fired.
In addition to providing AIM Missiles to Ukraine, McGuinty, and Fedorov, also Discussed Co-Cperation on Drone Production, and how Canada could Help Expand Ukraine's Domestic Defense Industry.
