Judge Blocks Trump from Enforcing Federal Election EO

A Federal Judge in Washington State, has Blocked the Trump (R) Administration from Enforcing Major Provisions of an Executive Order, that sought to Reshape how States Run Federal Elections. The Ruling Limits the Reach of Executive Order 14248 in Washington and Oregon, Finding that Trump Over-Stepped Constitutional Boundaries.

The Decision marks a Significant Setback for the Trump Administration’s Effort to Impose Uniform Federal Standards on State-Managed Elections. U.S. District Judge John Chun Ruled that several Provisions of Executive Order 14248, Violated the Separation-of-Powers and Exceeded Presidential Authority.

In a 75-page Opinion, Chun Emphasized that the Constitution does Not Ggrant the President Unilateral Power to Dictate Election Rules to States. Citing Supreme Court Precedent, He wrote that while the Constitution Vests Executive Power in the President, “in the framework of our Constitution, the president’s power to see that the laws are faithfully executed rRefutes the idea that he is to be a lawmaker.”

Chun Concluded, that Applying the Order’s Requirements to Washington and Oregon was Unlawful. Executive Order 14248, Signed by Trump in March 2025, Directed Federal Agencies to require Documentary Proof of Citizenship on Federal Voter Registration Forms.

It also attempted to Mandate that Absentee and Mail-in Ballots be Received by Election Day to be Counted. The Oorder further Instructed the Attorney General to take Enforcement Action against States that include Ballots Arriving after Election Day, in their Final Vote Totals. You can asked when you Drop-Off your Ballot, to have the Envelope to be Time Staped for Podt Mark.

Critics argued that the provisions would suppress lawful votes and interfere with long-standing state election practices. Washington and Oregon filed a lawsuit in April contending that the executive order violated the Constitution by attempting to regulate ballot counting, voter registration and voting equipment, powers traditionally reserved to states and Congress.

Judge Chun Noted that neither State Certifies Election Results on Election Day, a Practice Shared by All U.S. States and Territories. Under State Law, Ballots Postmarked On or Before Election Day, may be Counted if they Arrive before Certification. The Judge found the Executive Order Incompatible with that System. Washington Officials Hailed the Ruling as a Defense of State Authority.

“Today’s ruling is a huge victory for voters in Washington and Oregon, and for the rule of law,” Attorney General Nick Brown said, Calling the Order an Unlawful attempt to Control Elections. Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said the States would continue to Protect Access to Voting while Safeguarding Election Integrity, adding that the Constitution Guarantees Qualified Voters the Right to have their Votes Counted.

However, the White House Pushed Back, Signaling the Fight is Not Over. Spokesperson Abigail Jackson said, “President Trump cares deeply about the integrity of our elections and his executive order takes lawful actions to ensure election security.”

She added that the Ruling “is not the final say on the matter” and that the Trump Administration expects to Prevail. For now, Chun’s Order Prevents the Administration from Enforcing Key Election Pprovisions in Washington and Oregon, Reinforcing Limits on Presidential Power over State-Run Elections.
