Ukrainian Intelligence Reveals New Military Setback for Moscow

When Russian President Vladimir Putin Ordered the Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, He likely didn't think that the War He was about to Start would Last for the better part of Four years and Cost Moscow over a Million Military Casualties.

While High Casualties have been a Major Problem for the Russian Military since the Conflict Kicked Off, a New Revelation from Ukrainian Intelligence has Disclosed that Not All of Russia's Casualties have Resulted from Combat. Moscow has Suffered from Key Issues behind the Frontlines.

According to the Ukrainian Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR), at least 600 Russian servicemen from Russia’s Central Military Command have “died as a result of systemic disorder, criminal behavior, and negligence within their own ranks” in 2024 and 2025.

Russia’s Central Military Command is One of Five Operational Districts. A Report from the HUR released on November 10th, Focused on this Military District and Broke down what Ukrainian Intelligence knows about the Non-Combat Deaths the District has Sustained.

In 2024, 71 Russian Soldiers and Officers are known to have taken their Own Lives. That number Increased to 86 in the First-Half of 2025. Other causes of death included issues like "alcohol and drug overdoses, violent altercations, extreme unsanitary conditions, and command negligence."

The HUR Reported that in the First Half of 2025, Narcotic Intoxication resulted in the Death of at least 112 Servicemen. This Figure was nearly as High as All Narcotic related Deaths in the Central Military Command in 2024, which saw 143 Personnel Die for that Reason.

“Meanwhile, poor food quality and violations of basic hygiene standards in unit kitchens and field camps led to the deaths of 32 Russian servicemen from food poisoning,” the HUR Report noted. Ukrainian Intelligence did Not Reveal where its Information came from.

According to the HUR, the Surge in the Deaths that it Outlined “reflects severe moral and psychological degradation of the occupying forces.” However, it is Important to Note that this Information was Reported by Ukrainian Intelligence, which has an Interest in Shaping the Narrative of the Conflict. The HUR’s Report does provide some Insights.

The Ukrainian Military News Outlet Defense Express noted that Behind the Statistics from the HUR, lies “a broader collapse of control and morale within Russian forces”. Whether this Broader Collapse is happening, will likely Never be fully known Outside of the Military.

“Commanders are reportedly unable to contain the growing wave of indiscipline, while attempts to conceal non-combat casualties have failed to prevent information leaks from reaching public and media sources,” Defense Express continued.

As of November 27th, Russian Forces have Suffered 1,169,690 Losses since the Conflict began, according to an Estimate by the Ukrainian General Staff. How High this Figure will go has yet to be seen, but what does appear Clear is that an End to the Fighting might still be a Long Way Off.
