Trump Suffers Major Loss in Medicaid Case

U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani has Denied the Trump (R) Administration’s Request to pause a Lawsuit over Proposed Medicaid Cuts to Planned Parenthood during the Federal Government Shutdown. She Ruled that the Plaintiffs’ Interest in the Case Outweighed the Administration’s Request for a Delay. A Lawsuit by 23 States and D.C. Challenges a Budget Bill barring Federal Medicaid Funds to Planned Parenthood, arguing it Unconstitutionally Targets the Organization and Jeopardizes Healthcare access for Millions.

Massachusetts AG Andrea Campbell (D) said the Case seeks Access to Essential Health Services. States Argue Funding Cuts Strain systems. The Claim reads, “The result is devastating consequences for those who will be denied care in the plaintiff states, as well as negative impacts to the plaintiff states themselves.”

Campbell said, “By illegally targeting Planned Parenthood, this provision of the budget bill would threaten millions of Americans’ access to essential health care like cancer screenings and pregnancy care.”

Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, has Temporarily Closed One of its Memphis Clinics, after the Administration Halted the Medicaid Reimbursements. Health Advocates have Criticized the Measure, Arguing it has Restricted Access for Low-Income Patients who Rely on Medicaid.

A Lower Court had temporarily Restored Payments earlier in the Summer, but the Appeals Court Overturned that Decision, as related Legal Challenges continue. Planned Parenthood has Maintained that Federal Funds have Never been used to Pay for Abortion Services.
