The U.S. Department of Transportation is taking aim at Bicycles, Cancelling Grants that were previously Awarded for Cycling related Infratructure Projects.
The Trunp (R) Administration says that these Initatives run Counter to its Agenda Improve Road Conditions for Motor Vehiclles, and that they are "Hostiile" to Cars.
The Grants were Awarded under the $1.1 Trllion Infrastruturev Law signed by former President Biden (D) in 2021. Most were earmarked for Bikr Lanes being Built in Communities such as Albuquerque, NM; Boston, MA; and San Diego, CA. Many of the Individual Grants were valued at several Million Dollars each.
Resacinding Grants Awardwd by a previous Administration is Unusual and has left Local Governments Officials scrambling to find Alternative Funding. Some say that without the Grants, their Bike initiatives likely will be Scrapped.
The move Highlights a Significant Shift from the Biden Administrtion, which Promoted Alternitive Transportation Modes like: Bikes, Rail, and Mass Transit, to the Trump Administration's Priority of expanding Lanes for Cars and Trucks. Critics say that more Bikes on the Road meains fewer Cars and Less Congestion.
