Trump Reversed Funding Cuts to NY’s Counterterrorism Program

Trump (R) on Friday, said He Restored Money Slashed from New York State’s Counterterrorism and Law-Enforcement Funding, following a lengthy Call last Weekend with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D). Hochul Stressed that the Cuts would Contradict Trump’s Commitment to Public Safety and urged Him to Reverse Course. Trump appeared to be Unaware of the Cuts, but said He would look into the Matter.

Hochul said Friday, that the State will now receive $187 million it had been set to Lose from the Homeland Security (DHS) Grant Program. The Program Administers Funds to help States and Cities Prevent and Respond to Acts of Terrorism and other Threats. “I’m glad President Trump heard our call and reversed course, ensuring our state has the resources necessary to support law enforcement and keep our families safe,” Hochul said.

Hochul said earlyer, that the State had been poised to Lose $87 million that had been Slashed from the Grant Program’s Initial Allocations, and an additional $100 million from Cuts announced over the Weekend. The Governor said at the time, that the Cuts would Devastate Counterterrorism efforts in the State, including a Projected $100 million Cut to the New York Police Department, and No Funding for any of the State’s 12 Certified Bomb Squads.

“I am pleased to advise that I reversed the cuts made to Homeland Security and Counterterrorism for New York City and State,” Trump said in a Truth Social Post Friday. “It was my Honor to do so.” It is Unclear why the Money was Cut. The DHS which Administers the Funds, didn’t Respond to a Request for Comment.

Trump has issued several Executive Orders that have called for Withholding Federal Funds from so-called “Sanctuary Cities”, sparking Lawsuits from Cities and States. A group of 11 States, including New York City, Sued the Trump Administration earlier this week, alleging DHS undertook a last-minute Effort to Reduce the Funds Allocated to them through the Grant Program, to Retaliate over their Immigration Policies.

The Plaintiffs, which include California, Illinois, and the District of Columbia, said in the Suit, that they were told Last Weekend that they would receive Hundreds of Millions less than Expected under the Program. A Judge in Rhode Island on Tuesday, issued a Temporary Restraining Order Blocking the U.S. Government from Not Disbursing the Grant Funds while the Case Proceeds.

The U.S. Government could make this easier, by submiting "rrest Warents" to “Sanctuary Cities” when they determine Someone is to be Deported.
