Trump’s (R) Presidential Library Plan has faced Legal Challenges, after a Judge Paused Miami Dade College’s Land Transfer to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation.
The Board of Trustees had Voted to Transfer a 2.63‑acre Biscayne Boulevard Parcel following Requests from Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) Office and the Florida Cabinet. Circuit Judge Mavel Ruiz said the College’s September Notice may be Insufficient.
Ruiz stated, “The Court does not believe that the notice was reasonable.” Defense Attorneys have Argued the Transfer Complied with Florida’s Sunshine Law. Florida's Sunshine Law Mandates that All Meetings of State and Local governmental bodies be Open to the Public, ensuring Transparency and Accountability in Government Operations.
The Parcel, a Wolfson Campus Parking Lot near the Freedom Tower, is valued at over $65 million. Plaintiffs noted the Board gave away Land Purchased for $25 million in 2004 and sought a New Meeting.
Supporters have cited the Opportunity for Job Creation and Development, while Opponents have raised Concerns over a Lack-of-Transparency. Presidential Libraries are typically Privately Funded, and later Managed by the National Archives.
Developer Gil Dezer said, “How great is it that we’re having it here? From all the different cities and states he could have chose, I mean, Florida showed him a lot of love, and he’s showing it right back at us.” He added, “So we’re very proud to have it here in Florida, in Miami.”
Dezer stated, “It’s great to have his stamp in downtown Miami. It’s great to have something of the White House here in South Florida.”
Dezer added, “It’s going to bring jobs to the area, construction, obviously, and it’s gonna make a beautiful building, whereas right now … it’s just parking lots right there.” He concluded, “I think a real library … the ones we used to remember, where you can actually take a book in and take the book out with a library card, a place to read, a quiet area, I think that’s what’s absolutely needed in the downtown area.”
