NY Schools Mandate Vaccines for New School Year

With Summer coming to an End, Families are getting ready for the upcoming School year, and with that comes staying Up-to-Ddate on Vaccinations. Every School has a List of which Vaccines are Required for the Upcoming School year.

“We’re definitely in back-to-school season now when it comes to vaccination. Vaccines are the best way to keep children and everyone around them safe and protected against diseases,” said Mealea VanDenburg, Steuben County Public Health Education Coordinator.

In 2019, a Law was passed in New York that Ended Non-Medical Exemptions to School Vaccination Requirements. “When you vaccinate your child, the entire classroom benefits from that by helping reduce the spread of infection,” said Justin Nistico, an Arnot Health Infectious Disease Doctor.

Health Officials say there are a lot of Health Issues that can happen if a Person isn’t Vaccinated. “Unvaccinated children are more likely to contract preventable diseases like I mentioned, measles and whooping cough, and those diseases can cause serious complications, including, and some instances, hospitalization,” said VanDenburg.

“If you’re unsure about vaccinations, start with a simple conversation with your doctor. They can help you make the best choice for your child’s health,” said VanDenburg.
