Feds Give States and Territories 60 Days to Purge Sex Ed Curriculum or Risk Funding

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is telling 40 States and Six Territories, including New York, to Remove All References to so-called "Gender Ideology" in Federally Funded Sex Education Programs.

The Notice, which was announced on Tuesday, gives States 60 days to comply with the Order, or they could face the Elimination or Suspension of Federal Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) Funding, HHS said.

Acting Assistant Secretary Andrew Gradison (R) said Federal Funds "will not be used to poison the minds of the next generation or advance dangerous ideological agendas," in announcing the Notice. New York could Lose more than $6 million, according to HHS. “Federal funds will not be used to poison the minds of the next generation or advance dangerous ideological agendas. The Trump Administration will ensure that PREP reflects the intent of Congress, not the priorities of the left," says Gradison.

Massachusetts would Lose more than $2 million, and Vermont Risks Losing about $670,000. California's PREP Grant was Terminated last week, when the State Failed to meet similar Demands.

HHS claims the Goal is to Protect Children from "attempts to indoctrinate them with delusional ideology," in line with the Trump (R) Administration's Commitment to such efforts.

According to a Document on the NYS Department of Health website, the State considers Youth who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgener, or Questioning (LGBTQ+) as "High Risk."

The Administration for Children & Families, an Office within HHS, mentions Sexual Minorities on its PREP web page.

The New York State Department of Health has received the Letter and is Reviewing the Information. The Mission of the New York State Department of Health, under the Leadership of Governor Kathy Hochul (D), remains the same. They will continue to Promote and Protect Health and well-being for All, building on a Foundation of Health Equity.
