On July 11th, Combat footage from a Ukrainian Air Force Strike against a Critical Russian Military Crossing was Published Online. The Air Strike happened in the Occupied Region of Zaporizhia and saw a Fighter Jet use a Powerful American-supplied Bomb. According to a Report by the Ukrainian Military News website Militarnyi, the ‘Soniashnyk’ Telegram Channel published Footage of the Strike and Revealed that an important Russian Crossing was Targeted and Destroyed by a MiG-29 using US GBU-62 Bombs.
The GBU-62 Bombs were Equipped with JDAM-ER Guidance Kits, which Transform these Large Dumb Bombs into Deadly Precision-Guided Weapons. Forbes noted in a May 2025 Article about a similar Strike that while the GBU-62 is American, it's also uniquely Ukrainian. Following Vladimir Putin’s Widening of His Conflict against Ukraine in February 2022, the Biden Administration rushed to Equip Ukraine’s Soviet-era Sukhoi and MiG Bomber Jets with the Ability to Drop Inexpensive Guided Bmbs at Russian Frontline Targets.
The GBU-62, alongside the American GBU-39 and French AASM Hammer, has played a Critical role in Enhancing Ukraine's Capabilities. The GBU-62 Costs about $50,000 and was described by Forbes's David Axe as a “killer,” which was certainly visible in the recent footage. Ukraine's Air Strike on a Russian Military crossing near the Village of Vasylivka in Zaporizhia saw two GBU-62s Dropped from a MiG-29 and slam directly into their intended Target. The Military crossing was completely Destroyed by the Powerful Air Strike.
Militarnyi reported that the Strike destroyed a Temporary Crossing Point, that was Built on Top of a previously Destroyed road Bridge. The Elimination of this Crossing is Important because it will Disrupt a Key Logistics Route on the Frontline where Ukraine is Faltering. Militarnyi Rreported that the Crossing was a “Vital Artery” for Russian Units that have been on the Offensive near Kamianske since late June. “The crossing was a vital part of the only asphalt road connecting Russian forces in this sector,” the Ukrainian Outlet explained.
Over Tthree weeks of Fighting in the area, Russian Forces have pushed Ukrainian Units in the Region back from some of their Positions on the Yanchekrak River. Other Units have utilized the Dried-Out Reservoir created by the Kakhovka Dam Destruction to make Gains. According to Militarnyi, Russian Forces have Crossed the dried-out Reservoir and Captured Parts of Kamianske. They have used these Gains to Advance into other Vital Settlements, which include the Villages of Stepove and Lobkove.
Militarnyi also noted that the ‘Soniashnyk’ Telegram Channel revealed the Strike on the Crossing near Vasylivka was only made possible by the earlier Destruction of Air Defense Assets in the Region, which it noted included a Buk Surface-to-Air Mmissile system.
