Trump Coming After Climate Science

Climate Hawks have been expecting this, but the Trump (R) Administration could move to End the EPA’s Endangerment Finding for Climate, as soon as next week. This is the Bedrock Recognition that Climate Change is Real, happening Now, and a Threat to Americans. Trump's EPA now says Greenhouse Gases don't Endanger People.

In addition to being Scientifically, Certifiably, without the Endangerment Finding We can No Longer require Federal Agencies to Regulate, or even Keep Track of, Global Warming Pollution. This is clearly a move designed to Derail Virtually All U.S. Action on the Climate Crisis, and it could set U.S. Policy back to 2009, when the Obama (D) Administration laid out a Comprehensive Case for how Human Emissions of Greenhouse Gases Threaten our Health and Welfare.

But Trump and Lee Zeldin (R), Head of the Every Polluter Agency, can’t Wish Away Climate Change. Nor can They Dismiss its Deadly Impacts from Fires, to Floods, to the Extreme Heat gripping the U.S. Trump and Zeldin are calling it “the Holy Grail of the Climate Change Religion.”

In 2007 the Supreme Court, held that the EPA has the Authority to Regulate Greenhouse Gases in the Landmark Case Massachusetts vs. EPA. Shortly after His Election in 2008, President Obama (D) Ordered the EPA to Exercise its Authority and Take Action. There have been Actions and Lawsuits ever since, over How to do that. But even the First Trump Administration was never Reckless enough to Pretend Climate Change wasn’t a Problem.

The Good News for Climate Hawks, is that the Federal Government is Complicated, and Undoing the Endangerment Finding won’t be easy. Lawsuits will be Expected.

Zeldin wants to Unwind 31 Different Regulations, covering everything from Bedrock Climate Science to Electric Vehicles (EVs), All at Once, by Killing the Original Endangerment Finding. But each of the Separate 31 Deregulations will require Notice, Public Comment, a Hearing Date, a Rubber-Stamped Approval, and then the lawsuits, especially if the Agency ignores Public Comments, Scientific Evidence, and Consistent Legal Precedent.

This Process will take at least a year, and could become an Election Issue.
