The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), sent a Letter to Texas Governor Gregory Abbott (R) and Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), that the New Texas Congressional Districts, Violate the Voting Rights Act and the Constitution.
The Letter Demands that Texas alter the Racial Makeup of those Districts.
The DOJ Letter shows Texas would:
- Violate the Voting Right Act (VRA).
- The 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.
- The Fact that Changes happen after the Census.
- Were it to Change its Districting Map to Target these Four Districts is Gerrymandering.
I think this could have Texas Bailed-In. VRA’s most Obscure Provision: Section 3. Commonly called the Bail-In Mechanism or the Pocket Trigger, Authorizes Federal Courts to place States and Political Subdivisions, that have Violated the Fourteenth or Fifteenth Amendments under Preclearance. This reqires the State to get The Justice Department( DOJ) Approval for any Changes to Voting in a State.
