Senators Rick Scott (R-FL) and Roger Marshall (R-KS) announced the introduction of the LEDGER Act. a New Bill aimed at bringing Much-Needed Transparency and Accountability to Federal Sspending. The Legislation follows Discovery by DOGE that $4.7 Trillion in U.S. Treasury Payments were Unmarked and Now Uuntraceable.
"The Locating Every Disbursement in Government Expenditure Records" (LEDGER) Act. would Require the U.S. Department of the Treasury (DoT) to Implement a System that Tracks All Government Outlays and Disbursements, ensuring that every Tax Dollar spent is Clearly Recorded, Categorized, and Available for Review. “Like many Americans, I was outraged by DOGE’s findings,” Sen. Scott said in a Statement. “The U.S. Treasury made $4.7 trillion in payments that were completely unmarked, unlabeled, and therefore untraceable and unaccountable to the American people.”
Scott blasted Washington’s Financial Mismanagement, saying that the Government’s Lack of Transparency would never be Tolerated in any Household or Business in America. “We look at our bank accounts and credit card statements to make sure we know where our money is going and stay on budget,” He added. “The federal government should do the same.”
“The latest revelation that $4.7 trillion in Treasury payments were missing important traceability codes is disgraceful,” said Sen. Marshall. “The American people deserve answers and accountability.” Marshall noted that the U.S. spent more than $1 trillion on Interest Payments in 2024 alone, largely due to Unchecked Spending and Ballooning Deficits
The LEDGER Act would Mandate the Treasury Department to Assign a Traceability Code to every Government Payment, creating a Real-Time Tracking System, similar to Commercial Banking Tools used in the Private Sector, with a Goal: Provide Clear, Auditable Trails for Every Dollar Spent by the Federal Government. Scott, who previously served as Governor of Florida, said He’s Applying the same Fiscal Discipline that Helped Balance State Budgets and Rein-in-Costs. “I brought the same common sense of every American family and business to get spending under control and balance the budget,” Scott said. “We can do the same on the federal level to save the American dream.”
The LEDGER Act adds to a growing Legislative Push in response to DOGE’s Findings, which have sparked Bipartisan Calls for Reform. Although some Democrats have Criticized DOGE’s Methodology and Musk’s involvement, others have Acknowledged that the Revelations Warrant Greater Scrutiny of Government Expenditures across many Agencies, like the Military who can't Balance their Books.
