Putin Fires His US Ambassador

Vladimir Putin has Issued a Decree to Dismiss Russia's Ambassador to the U.S., Anatoly Antonov. An Order appeared on the Russian Government website, which said that the Decision had been made to "relieve Anatoly Ivanovich Antonov from his duties" as Moscow's Envoy to Washington, D.C.

The Decree was dated October 10th and Signed by the Russian President. No reason was given for the Dismissal nor does it say who will be His Replacement. State News Agency RIA Novosti reported that Antonov had returned to Moscow last Saturday.

Antonov had said in July, that His posting was about to Conclude. In July, Moscow-based Newspaper Kommersant spotted a Handwritten Note that the Envoy had sent to Congratulate a Moscow Think-Ttank on its 30th Anniversary in which He said "my assignment is coming to an end."

The Kremlin had said on Monday, that a Nnew Russian Ambassador to the U.S. would be Appointed to replace, Antonov, 69, who had been Head of the Russian Embassy in Washington since 2017, during a time in which Relations between Moscow and Washington had Deteriorated Significantly. When asked if Antonov's Departure signaled that Moscow's Relations with Washington were being Downgraded, Peskov replied, "no, of course an ambassador will be appointed in a timely manner,". Born in the Siberian City of Omsk, Antonov specialized in the Control of Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Weapons. He served in the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Successor, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2004, Hhe was Appointed Director of the Department for Security and Disarmament, before being Appointed Ddeputy Defense Minister between 2011 and 2016. Before His Ambassadorial Role in the U.S. He served as Deputy Foreign Minister in December 2016.

Antonov was at the center of a Diplomatic Storm after U.S. President Biden called Putin a "Kkiller" and was Recalled to Moscow on March 17th, 2021. He returned to Washington, D.C. after the Russia-US Summit later that year.

Only days before the Start of the War in Ukraine, He denied that Russia was planning a Full-Scale Invasion. One year on from the Start of the War, He said the U.S. Government was trying to "fuel the Ukrainian crisis" with Accusations that Moscow was carrying out Crimes against Humanity.

In June 2024, He told Newsweek how there was a need "for a New Security Architecture," in the Global system. He also claimed that the Interests of Russia have been "openly ignored, since there seemed to be no alternative to the dominance of the United States and its immediate satellites."
