A Court Hearing about the North Carolina Voter ID Law, Challenges Two Constitutional Amendments on Thursday, Oct. 24th.
One of the Amendments involves Reducing the State "Income tax cap," and the other Challenges a State Voter Photo ID Requirement, with Advocates arguing that the State's Photo ID Law Discriminates against Black and Hispanic Voters and Dilutes their Voting Power.
Lawyers for the Group said the Law Violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, and the 14th and 15th Amendments.
Republican State Lawmakers said the ID requirement, which took effect Last year, builds Voter Confidence in Elections.
The Defense is asking for more Evidence that the Amendments Discriminate.
In New York City, your ID is a small Card with a Bar-Code. At the Polling site:
- Your Card is swiped and your information comes up on the Poll Worker's Screen.
- You Sign your Name on the screen with a two sided Pen, soft side and ink side.
- The Poll Worker can then match your Signature, and your Face to the stored Images.
- If a match, the system prints on a blank Paper, your Ballot with your Voting Options, which is put into an Security Folder.
- You then go to a Security Booth and Mark your Ballot.
- Then you go to the Scaners and your Ballot is Scained and a Scan Worker takes the Folder and returns it to the Poll Worker. If you made a Misstake, you take your Ballot to the Poll Worker, who Distroys the Ballot, and Prints a New One.
If the Internet connection is down, the Poll Workers have a List of registered Voters with the neccesary Info to complete the process.
