A historic first in Southwest Michigan, receiving a big Financial Boost from the Federal Government.

On Monday, the Biden-Harris Administration, through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), announced more than $2.8 billion to Support the Re-Opening of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Van Buren County.

This includes the Approval of a previously announced $1.52 billion Loan to Holtec to help bring the 800-megawatt plant back Online, after it was shut down in May of 2022, and another $1.3 billion Loan for Wolverine Power Cooperative and Hoosier Energy to help Reduce the Cost of Electricity.

If approved to reopen, Palisades would become the First Nuclear Energy plant in U.S. The Plant would be Allowed to Operate until at least 2051.

The Restart is expected to support up to 600 jobs in Michigan, with many of them filled by Workers who have been at the Plant for more than 20 years.

Additionally, the Loan Guarantee will support more than 1,000 Jobs during the Facility’s regularly scheduled Refueling and Maintenance periods every 18 months.

Several White House Officials Plan to Tour the Plant on Monday afternoon while touting the Big Financial boost.
