Open Primries (OP), just successfully Defeated Two Closed Primary Bills in Virginia, Committees.
This is a Win for Virginia Voters, with the help of incredible Sate Partners including: Steve Richardson of Independent Virginians, NAACP, the League of Women Voters, Common Cause, Forward Party, Veterans for All Voters, the ACLU, and Open Party's National Defense Organizer Doug Balder, for amazing Leadership on this Campaign.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg, of what we’re facing Defensively: Partisan Zealots who want Closed Primaries in every State.
Already in 2024, the Louisiana Legislature has Voted to move from Nonpartisan to Party Primary Elections, for some Offices beginning in 2026, though OP successfully fought to keep Independent Voter Access.
The GOP in West Virginia has also Voted to Close the Primaries in 2026, a move that will Shut-Out 300,000 West Virginia Voters.
OP is seeing other Closed Primary Campaigns mounting in: Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas, where their Sessions are still Open.
If these Campaigns were to be Successful, over 10 million more Voters could be Shut-Out.
