The Senate Approved an Aid Package allocates $61 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel to combat Hamas, and $4.83 billion to bolster Indo-Pacific Partners, including Taiwan, to deter Chinese aggression. Additionally, it earmarks $9.15 billion in Humanitarian Aid for Civilians in Gaza, the West Bank, Ukraine, and other Conflict Zones Globally.
The Bipartisan Senate Bill from last week, proposed combining the Aid Ppackage with Increased Security Measures along the Southern Border.
The Legislation Passed the Senate with a 70-29 Vote. It now requires the Green Light from the House, to proceed to President Biden for His Signature.
It now facing Rejection from House Republican Hardliners, becourse it Failed to address Illegal Immigration concerns adequately.
House Speker Mike Johnson (DLA, 4th District), has not committed to facilitating a House Vote on the Bill, Voicing Objections, particularly to the proposed $60 billion in Military Aid for Ukraine. He argues that the Bill overlooks Critical Domestic Issues, such as Illegal Immigration.
The Speaker told Reporters, “I certainly don’t [plan on it]. Right now, we’re dealing with the appropriations process, we have immediate deadlines upon us and that’s where the attention is in the House in this moment.”
House Leaders from the Democratic Party, are contemplating the use of a Discharge Petition as a Strategy, to advance the Foreign Assistance Bill.
The Discharge Petition, requires 218 Supporters, including a minimum of Four Republicans. It will undergo the Voting Process akin to any Standard Legislative Measure. However, the probability of this occurring before the Month’s conclusion is Low, due to the Congested Congressional Agenda.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY-8th District) said, “All options on the table, we’re gonna use every available legislative tool.” He added, “There are over 300 bipartisan votes” to pass the Foreign Aid Bill.
Representative Ami Bera (D-CA, 6th District) wrote on X, “If Speaker Johnson won’t bring this critical aid package to the floor, I stand ready to sign a discharge petition to get the job done. The world is watching.”
Several Pro-Ukraine Conservatives, including Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican House Representative, known for Hhis Vocal Criticism of Trump, have also floated the idea of introducing a Discharge Petition.
Posting on X, in response to Comments from Johnson, Kinzinger said: “Time for a discharge petition, or for three Republicans to vote against every rule until he agrees. You will not win unless you fight fire with fire.”
Speaker Johnson has criticized the Bill, stressing the importance of addressing National Security Concerns at the U.S. Border, and expressing Dissatisfaction with the Senate’s Aapproach.
He remarked, “In the absence of having received any single border policy change from the Senate, the House will have to continue to work its own will on these important matters. America deserves better than the Senate’s status quo.”
President Biden urged the House to pass the Deal, stating, “History is watching. Failure to support Ukraine in this critical moment will never be forgotten.”
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), also implored Johnson to permit the Bill to reach the House Floor.
