Tump Properties Overcharging Secret Service

Documents that were recently Released by the former Democrate House Committee on Oversight and Reform, have illustrated how Trump’s Properties, charged the Secret Service Exorbitant rates for Accommodations, while they were On-Duty protecting Him and his Family. These Rates often far exceeded the Government-Approved Limits, prompting concerns about Taxpayer Funds being funneled into Trump’s Private Business Interests.

During the Trump Administration, the Secret Service was billed Rroom Rates more than Five times the Federal Government Limit for Employees. For instance, on March 8th, 2017, the Trump International Hotel in Washington, charged Taxpayers $1,160 per Room per Night, to house Secret Service Agents protecting Eric Trump, despite the Government Rate being a mere $242.

Similarly, on November 8th, 2017, Trump Jr.’s Protection Detail stayed at the same Hotel for $1,185 per Room per Night, in stark contrast to the Government rate of $201.

The Oversight Committee Chair, recently wrote to the Secret Service demanding more Information on these Sstays, highlighting that Trump visited His Properties over 500 times while in Office.

The Secret Service spent more than $1.4 million on Lodging at Trump-owned Properties in the U.S. States from Jan. 20th, 2017, through Sept. 15th, 2021. The Secret Service received Authorization for additional Flexibility for Expenses during Protective Missions, including Per Diem Expenses above the Government Rate.

The Trump Organization denied that the Secret Service Charges were an Issue, and stated that it offered Rooms and other Services at Cost, with significant Discounts, or for Free.

“The Trump family is likely the first family in American History, to have not profited off the United States government,” said Eric Trump in a Statement. He added, “President Trump funded the vast majority of his campaign with hundreds of millions of dollars of his own money and turned away billions of dollars in real estate deals worldwide.”

In addition to receiving Money from the Secret Service during His Family’s Visits to His Clubs and Hotels, Trump also hosted Foreign Officials at His Properties, necessitating Accommodations for accompanying Agents. The President attempted to Secure His Trump National Doral Golf Club in Florida as the Venue for a Group of Seven Meeting of Global Leaders, but Retracted the Proposal, following Public Outcry over potential Self-Dealing.

Among the Documents released on Monday, was a Bill related to a 2017 Trip by Trump’s eldest son, Don Jr., to the Trump International Hotel near the White House. This resulted in a Secret Service Room Charge of $1,185 per night, exceeding the Government-approved Per Diem Rate by more than Five times.
