Italian PM Supports Military Aid To Ukraine

Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, believes that further Assistance to Ukraine with Weapons, is necessary in order to ensure Parity on the Battlefield with Russia, otherwise the War threatens to spread closer to Italy. Meloni said at the Final Press Conference on Thursday, which was broadcast by ANSA.

Meloni Rejected the Assertion that they "should not send weapons to Ukraine", as this would lead to "an escalation of the conflict".

"I think the opposite is true. The only chance for Ukraine to sit at any table, to reach any diplomatic solution, any negotiating table is to maintain balance, balance between forces on the ground," She explained.

"And if we did what those who say we shouldn't support Ukraine suggest, we would not have peace. We would have an invasion, which means a war closer to home," Meloni added.

In December, 2023, the Italian Council of Ministers backed the Extension of its Ppowers to help Ukraine Militarily and Militarily-Technically for an additional year, until the end of 2024. The Italian Parliament still needs to Approve the Decision.

The Decision about supplying Ukraine with Military Aid was adopted by the previous Italian Government chaired by Mario Draghi. After New Prime Minister Georgia Meloni’s rise to Power in the Autumn of 2022, Her Council of Ministers decided to Prolong these Powers for 2023.

As of today, at least Seven Italian Military Aid Packages were Publicly announced, and in October, 2023, working on the preparation of the Eighth one.
