FL Gov. Press Secretary Registers As Soviet Foreign Agent

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' (R) Press Secretary, Registered as a Soviet Foreign Agent Monday, because of her work between 2018 and 2020 for the former President of Georgia, a former Soviet Republic.

Christina Pushaw, submitted her Registration to the U.S. Department of Justice, under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

She reported receiving $25,000 in Compensation from Mikheil Saakashvili, who was President of Georgia between 2004 and 2013.

"I advised Mikheil Saakashvili on international communications and media, including assistance with television appearances, op/eds, and outreach to policymakers," Pushaw wrote in her FARA Registration. "I worked under the supervision of Saakashvili during this period. As stated previously, my work for Saakashvili consisted of monitoring the Georgian political environment for him and assisting in his international profile."

Pushaw wrote that she received $10,000 in cash from Saakashvili in 2018 for her Work, stayed Rent-Free in a Tbilisi Apartment "owned by an associate of Saakashvili", and later received $15,000 for further work she did for Saakashvili while Living in Georgia.

Pushaw Attorney, Michael Sherwin, said that she Submitted the Documents "retroactively" after recently being Contacted by the Department of Justice (DOJ). "Ms. Pushaw was notified recently by the DOJ that her work on behalf of Mr. Saakashvili likely required FARA registration," Sherwin said. "Ms. Pushaw filed for the registration retroactively as soon as she was made aware.”

Pushaw wrote that her work for Saakashvili ended in December 2020. DeSantis hired her a few months later. She said on Twitter that "I’m proud of the work I have done in Georgia, though that chapter of my life has closed long ago, I certainly learned a lot from it."

Pushaw isn't the only Person in DeSantis' orbit to face Pressure from the DOJ to Register as a Foreign Agent. Last month, the DOJ Sued Casino Mogul Steve Wynn, in an attempt to compel him to Register as a Chinese Foreign Agent. Wynn, who contributed $100,000 to DeSantis' Campaign, is Accused by DOJ of acting as an unregistered Foreign Agent for China, and Lobbying Trump on the Country’s behalf.
