Albany NY Wants To Shrink City Board Of Elections

New York, Albany Senators, are planning a series of Reforms to Overhaul the New York City Board of Elections.

They want to increase Oversight and Training for Election Officials and Raise Pay, for Election Day Workers across the State.

Sen. Liz Krueger (D-NY, 28th District, Manhattan), Chairwoman of the Finance Committee, said she aims to pass Legislation before Session ends June 2nd, that would completely Revamp the Structure of the New York City Board of Elections, with their own Charter, but with a State Budget

The Board Oversees and Administers: the City’s Elections, Manages Voter Registration, handles Petitions and Campaign-Finance Disclosures, has a seperate Voting system used by 6 Counties out of 62 Counties, and uses Ebooks for Voting.

The push for Changes to the Board follows, a 135,000 Ballot Counting Error in the June Mayoral Primary, that Delayed the Final Vote Count for nearly Two weeks.

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-35th District), called the Election Tallying Error “a national embarrassment.”
