NY Legislative Update 2022

The New York State Senate has Passed the following:

S253 - A Bill that does Not Disqualify Absentee Ballots with Stray Marks, so long as the Voter’s intent is Unambiguous.

S284A - A Bill that requires the Counting of Affidavit Ballots cast in a Polling Place other than the One to which the Voter was Assigned (Ballot Saving). Due to a Technical difference with the Assembly Version, will have to be re-passed by the Senate.

S2951 - A Bill to Reduce the Registration Timeline to the 10 day Constitutional Minimum.

S4658 - A Bill that establishes Polling Places on College Campuses.

S492 - A Bill that Authorizes Absentee Ballot Drop Boxes.

S557 - A Bill that establishes “Portable” Early Voting Locations.

S6214 - A Bill allowing Voters to Register to Vote, at any Residence to which the Voter, maintains a Continuous Connection with an Intent to Return (Second Residence).

These Bills have yet to move in the Assembly, including new Version of S284A, but Governor Hochul (D) included Legislation in her Budget Proposal, that would Reduce the Registration Deadline to the Constitutional Minimum and designate Polling Places on College Campuses, so hope the Assembly will carry those forward in the Budget Negotiations.
