President Biden will Nominate Privacy Advocate, Alvaro Bedoya, for a Seat on the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Bedoya will be the Agency’s Third Democratic Commissioner, at a time when it has faced Criticism, for Not doing enough to Police Major Tech Firms, like Google and Facebook, over their Privacy Practices and Past Mergers.
The FTC oversees Privacy, Data Security, and some Antitrust Enforcement.
As a Georgetown University Law Professor, Bedoya has focused his Research on the ways Technologies, such as Facial Recognition, have led to Discrimination against Immigrants and People of Color.
If Confirmed, he will Replace, Democratic FTC Commissioner Rohit Chopra, who is Leaving to Head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
