NY Lt. Governor Frontrunner

Until New York Governor, Kathy Hochul (D), selects a New Lieutenant Governor, Senate Majority Leader, Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-35th District), will assume the Duties of that Office, including serving as Governor when Hochul is Out-of-State.

Today, State Sen. Brian Benjamin (D-30th District) is the, Frontrunner choice, for Hochul's Lieutenant Governor.

The 44-year-old Benjamin is the Senior Assistant Majority Leader in the Senate and Chairs the New York Senate's Revenue and Budget Committee.

He has represented Harlem since 2017.

He placed Fourth, in the Democratic Primary for Comptroller, earlier this year.

He is Progressive, particularly on Criminal Justice Reform, a Counterweight to Hochul's more Moderate Background.

Hochul could Announce her Choice as soon as, Thursday in Harlem, according to a Person familiar with her thinking.

Hochul, who is from Western New York, Buffalo, had previously said she would pick a Lieutenant Governor from New York City.

The Frontrunner is now the New Lieutenant Governor. He will take Office after Labor Day, because his Senate Sseat will require a Special Election, and needs to follow State Law Process.
