WA Legislators Co-Sponsor RCV Bill

Two Local Legislators have Signed a Bill promoting Ranked-Choice-Voting (RCV) in Washington State.

Democratic Representatives, Sharon Shewmake (D-42nd, Position 1) and Alicia Rule (D-42nd, Position 1), are Co-Sponsors of House Bill 1156.

RCV will allow Voters to Rank upto Five Candidates for: County, City, Town, School District, Fire District, or Port District.

The Candidate with the Majority, more than 50% of First-Choice Votes wins Outright.

If No Candidate gets a Majority of First-Choice Votes, then it Triggers a New Counting Process.

The Candidate who did the Worst is Eliminated, and that Candidate’s Voters’ Ballots are Redistributed to their Second-Choice Pick.

Supporters of RCV say it makes Campaigns more Civil, can Save Money, and Improves Voter expression.

Opponents have said RCV is too Complicated, and Eliminates Runoff Elections where these are held, Denying Voters a Second Chance to Evaluate the Top Contenders.
