2021 Redistricting Update

With the Census Cut Short and the Final Numbers delayed due to Data Problems, could Gerrymandering become Harder to do?

In 2021, its up to the States, either through their Legislature or Special Citizen Commissions, to Redraw Voting Districts and State Federal Money Distrbution, to adjust for Population changes, and how the Supreme Court will handle Trumps request to Not Count Non-Citizens.

Where Politicians or their Appointees oversee this, they get a chance to Gerrymander. By Pack or Crack Voting Districts, they can lock in a Partisan Advantage that enduresfor Ten years.

This is not just Unfair, it also encourages Extremism. In Gerrymandering Seats the Incumbant jnows that the risk of Loosing in the General Election is slight. The Greater Threat is from In-Party Primary Challengers who typically Appeal to the Political Extremes.

In 2018 Voters in Michigan overwhelmingly backed a Plan for an Independent Redistricting Commission, for congressional and State District Maps. Arizona, California, and Colorado, have All created Independent Commissions. Iowa already has Non-Partisan Staff Drawn Maps. Pennsylvania Courts have Re-Drawn Maps that were deemed too Partisan. Two years ago Missouri Reformed their System, but voters undid that change in 2020.

This Year the Supreme Court decided to Not Handle Gerrymandering Cases in the Federal Court System and that leaves the Highest Court in each State to Decide Cases.

So, here is the Possible Changes the U.S. could see in 2021.
