Trump Looting America’s Crown Jewels

On Wednesday, Oct. 28th, Trump announced he was Opening the World's Largest intact Temperate Forest, the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, to Exploitation by Mining and Logging Companies.

Sixteen Million Acres of Pristine Woods and Salmon Runs, One of America’s Crown Jewels, are now Open to Destruction.

Tongass is a 500-mile Coastal Temperate Rainforest that retains more Carbon than any Forest in the U.S.

Local Indigenous People, including the Tlingit and Haida, have also Lived in this Region for Centuries and Rely on the Forest's Healthy Natural Resources for Survival.

Thousand-year-old-growth Trees provide Habitat for Iconic Wild Creatures, including Bald Eagles and everything from: Humpback and Orca Whales, Bears, Otters, andBbeavers.

Equally important for Climate Hawks, Tongass is a Carbon Sink, in Climate Science Jargon. Its Old-Growth Trees Store Vast Amounts of Carbon, an Estimated 10%-12% of All of America's nNtional Forests, and play a Critical Role when it comes to reaching Global climate Goals.

The Roadless Rule Protected 9.3 Million Acres of Undeveloped Roadless Land in the Tongass, Twice the Size of: Yellowstone; Glacier; and Grand Canyon National Parks, Combined.

Trump’s Brazen Contempt for the Tongass is so Bad that All Five Alaska Native Tribal Nations have Walked Away from the Rulemaking Process.

Last fall, Members of the Climate Hawks Vote Community Submitted over 7,000 Public Comments to Protect this Forest and also Signed on to a Formal Letter to the Forest Service.

But Trump isn’t Listening. He’s doing a Smash-and-Grab. He’s going to Loot every Last one of America’s Crown Jewels.

We Hope an Incoming Biden Administration will make Restoration of the Tongass, a Top Priority.
