NY SAM Party Asks Second Circuit to Expedite Ballot Access Appeal

Thanks to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News for this post.

A Federal Judge Upheld New York's Stricter Ballot Standards for Political Parties, dealing a Blow to these New York Parties:

- Green - Howie Hawkins (President)

- Working Families - Joe Biden (President)

- Independence - Brock Pierce (President)

- Libertarian - Jo Jorgensen (President)

- Save American Movement (SAM) - NA

The New Law, Passed and Signed April 3rd, 2020, which had been paired with the Creation of a System of Publicly Financed Campaigns in the State, requires Parties to Receive at least 130,000 Votes or 2% of All Votes Cast, which ever is Higher, for President or Governor, to Qualify for a Ballot Line. The Previous Threshold was 50,000 Votes for Governor.

The Provision is expected to make it harder for the above Parties to keep their Ballot Line. This will affect the 2020 Presidential Election. It also replaces having to Qualify ever Four years to Every Two years.

On September 11th, the SAM Party, a Ballot-Qualified Party, asked the Second Circuit to Expedite its Lawsuit against the New Definition of a Qualified Political Party in New York.

Because the SAM Party has No Presidential Candidate this year, it will Lose Ballot Status after the November 2020 Election, unless it wins Judicial Relief.

UPDATE

The Working Families Party is about to launch an Expensive Campaign on its own behalf. The party must encourage New Yorkers to Vote for a Presidential Candidate on their Line. So the Party must persuade Voters to Vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in its Column, not on that of the Democratic Party. The Votes will tally for the Biden/Harris Ticket. The Party will begin its push on, Tuesday Sept. 15th, with Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, expected to participate in the Weekslong endeavor.
