Let NY Vote Safely Bills Update


The New York State Legislature had the chance in May to ensure Safe and Fair Elections, but chose Not to, and now Tens of Thousands of Votes are being Thrown Out, Disproportionately from Black and Brown Communities hit Hardest by the Pandemic.

The Legislature is Meeting this week, starting, July, 20th, to discuss Legislative Priorities. We need them to Pass the Entire, Let NY Vote Safely, slate of Laws to ensure that All Votes will be Counted in the November Elections.

The Senate Bills:

S6463: (Temporarily) Enable the Campaign Finance Board's Use of an Online Voter Registration Portal in New York City. Passed Senate on July 21st, now in Assembly as A8473.

S6922: Increase the Minimum Number of Early Voting Days.

S7194: Provide Students with Voter Information and Application for Voter Registration.

S8004: Provide a Return Postage Guaranteed Envelope with Absentee Ballots that Postal Service Must Postmark.

S8015B: Codifies the Expansion of Expanded Absentee Voting for the Duration of the Public Health Crisis.

S8367: Protects Absentee Ballots with Postmarking Issues.

S8368: Protects Absentee Ballots where Voters Intent is Unambiguous.

S8369: Protects Absentee Ballots regardless of How they are Sealed, Currently you Can't use any Types of Tape.

S8370: Provides Voters an Opportunity to Contest Challenges to Absentee Ballots.

The Assembly Bills:

A116: Would give Voters Two Additional Weeks to Register, moving the Deadline to 10 days before Election Day, the Constitutional Minimum. Passed July 21st, in the Senate, as S2311.

A5661: Requires at least One Polling Location on Every College Campus with more than 300 Registered Students, Passed July 21st, in the Senate, as S4378.
